Genealogical Research
Information Required for Genealogical Research
Before contacting us, please read Chapter IV – Eligibility of the Odanak Abenaki Citizenship Code available HERE.
We will support you in your genealogical research ONLY if you are likely to be eligible under this code. Otherwise, we suggest referring to the guide Researching Your Aboriginal Ancestors from Library and Archives Canada.
You may also seek information from genealogical societies or archives centres such as the Centre d’archives régionales du Séminaire de Nicolet.
Documents to Provide
- Scanned copy of your Birth Certificate
- A scanned copy of your parents' marriage certificate, or death certificates, or birth certificates for each of them.
- A scanned copy of your grandparents' marriage certificate, or death certificates or birth certificates for each of them, if they were born or married after 1941.

- Your First and Last Name
- Mother's Frst and Last Name
- Date and Place of Marriage (if applicable)
- First and Last Name of Paternal Grandfather
- First and Last Name of His Wife
- Date and Place of Marriage (if applicable)
