Spectacle W 2023 : Un nouveau lieu, un nouveau concept, un même objectif (In French only)

It is with excitement and enthusiasm that the N8wkika Social Services of the Grand Council of the Waban-Aki Nation, in collaboration with the Councils of the Abenakis of Odanak and Wôlinak, announce that, in addition to introducing an entirely new concept, the next edition of the Spectacle W will be presented at a different venue than in previous years. True to recent editions, the Spectacle W remains an opportunity to honor the Abenaki Nation by showcasing and sharing its culture. And with this same objective, the Spectacle W 2023 will offer audiences a renewed experience.

It is at the warm Théâtre Belcourt in Baie-du-Febvre, on Saturday, May 27, that members of the Abenaki communities of Odanak and Wôlinak will present the result of the work they have accomplished over the past few weeks. Under the theme “The Creation of the World According to the Abenakis,” spectators will also be invited to discover the importance of family, as well as the different stages of learning and passing on Abenaki culture between generations. Taking place in two parts, the doors and the exhibition will open at 5:30 PM, while the show will begin at 7:00 PM. As mentioned by Mathieu O’Bomsawin, co-organizer of Spectacle W, “For more than ten years, our team has been working hand in hand with the community to create cultural events aimed at celebrating and showcasing our Nation in all its forms. The Spectacle W is an opportunity for people from our communities, as well as the wider region, to come together and celebrate our pride and identity!”

“The Spectacle W is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Abenaki Nation across generations and through culture. The people of the communities have been actively involved in creating and presenting this show. I invite everyone from the region to join us on May 27 — it will be a pleasure to welcome you and share our pride with you,” says Julie Cleary, Director of N8wkika Social Services of the Grand Council of the Waban-Aki Nation.

This project is an initiative of the N8wkika Social Services of the Grand Council of the Waban-Aki Nation in collaboration with the band councils of Odanak and Wôlinak.
